Riyadh : EV mobility, startups and product development

Back in Riyadh!

Since early April, we’ve been actively reconnecting with the local ecosystem. Here are four standout moments worth highlighting.

EV & Mobility Show Saudi 2025
China and Saudi Arabia dominated the floor. Mandarin was everywhere. Xiaomi, ZEEKR, Jetour and ROX Motor filled the stands, often co-hosting with Saudi firms. Austria’s FlyNow Aviation showed its eVTOL prototype. Tesla’s Cybertruck, unsurprisingly, stole attention. CEER, the PIF-backed Saudi EV brand, was notably absent. Off the main track, we found real value in EVINEX by Wadi Jeddah at King Abdulaziz University, supporting startups across batteries, charging and EV software.

NeoNexus: UniCamels over unicorns
Hosted by SIGMA and partners, this forum focused on sustainable startup models for desert markets. Speakers from RDIA, Atolye, Quintes and others argued for practical, lean and purpose-driven growth. The "UniCamel" narrative resonates. It reflects much of what we see in cross-border founder journeys across the Gulf.

Jeem: Tim Abbott breaks down product strategy
Ex-NASA and HP, Tim delivered sharp tools for product teams. He tackled mission framing, backlog control and internal governance with clarity. We left with real frameworks, not just post-event energy.

InterNations
At Al Jazeera Compound, we joined a diverse expat community in one of the region’s most open networking spaces. These gatherings help expats stay grounded in local perspectives, beyond business cards and pitch decks.

We continue to track opportunities across mobility, digital infrastructure and innovation policy, connecting Polish and East Asian players with what’s happening on the ground in Saudi Arabia.
